Skujy Scholarships

Privacy policy

Last updated: 5 October 2026

The short version

  • We collect what we need to assess your application and nothing more.
  • We use it to decide awards, verify your claims and pay your fees to the official UNILAG channel.
  • We never sell your information or use it for marketing.
  • We delete it 1 year after the end of the academic session you applied for.
  • You can ask to see, correct or delete your information at any time.

1. Who we are

Skujy Scholarships runs scholarship programs for students, including the Mr Ogbonnaya & Mrs Onyekachi Scholarship, through the scholarships section of the Skujy Tutorials website. We decide how and why your personal information is used, which makes us the data controller for the information you give us.

We handle your personal data in line with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 (NDPA).

For any privacy question or request, email skujyservices@gmail.com.

2. What we collect

When you apply (Phase 1)

  • Identity and contact details: full name, matric number, UTME / application reg number, UNILAG student email and WhatsApp number.
  • Your studies: faculty, department and course, level, academic session, CGPA, whether you're on academic probation, and your course or level adviser's name.
  • Your household and finances: who pays your fees and their occupation and workplace, monthly household income band, number of dependants and siblings in tertiary institutions, hardships your household is facing, and your financial need statement.
  • Your fees: your fee status, the amount outstanding, registration status and deadlines, the disruption you're facing, the amount you're requesting, and whether you've applied for NELFUND or other support.
  • How you help others: the community activities you tick, how often you take part, and the example you write.
  • Your referee, if you name one: their name, phone number and how they know you. Please let them know before you give us their details.
  • Anything you choose to tell us about exceptional circumstances.
  • Your declarations, the name you type as your signature, and the date and time you submitted.

If you're shortlisted (Phase 2)

  • Copies of the documents you upload: student ID card, portal payment advice or invoice, course registration form or result printout, and any proof of hardship.

Sensitive information

Some information, such as details of illness in your household, a medical report or a death certificate, is sensitive personal data under the NDPA. Share it only if you're comfortable doing so. We ask for your explicit consent before you submit, and we use it only to assess your application.

What we don't collect

We don't ask for your bank details, because awards are paid to the official UNILAG channel or your Remita / portal account. We don't use cookies, analytics or advertising trackers.

Information saved on your own device

While you fill in the application, your answers are saved in your browser on your own phone or computer, so you don't lose them if your connection drops. This copy stays on your device and isn't sent to us until you submit. It's cleared once your application is submitted, and you can clear it at any time with the "Start over" link.

Technical information

Like any website, our hosting provider keeps standard server logs, such as your IP address and browser type, to run and secure the site. The site's fonts load from Google Fonts, which also receives your IP address.

3. Why we use it

We use your information to:

  • check that you're eligible and assess your financial need and the urgency of your situation
  • verify your claims against official UNILAG portal records and department dockets, and with your course adviser, Head of Department and the Dean of Student Affairs, as you authorise in your declaration
  • contact the referee you name, if any, to confirm what you've told us about your community involvement
  • contact you about your application, including inviting shortlisted applicants to upload documents
  • arrange payment of awards to the official UNILAG channel or your Remita / portal account
  • prevent fraud and duplicate applications, and keep a proper record of decisions

We rely on your consent, which you give when you tick the declarations and submit, and on our legitimate interest in running a fair scheme and preventing fraud. For sensitive information, we rely on your explicit consent.

4. How applications are scored

A formula gives each application a starting score based on your answers about financial need, urgency, the impact of the grant, your academic standing and how often you help others. It helps the committee see the most urgent cases first.

No decision is made automatically. Members of the assessment committee read and review applications, score exceptional circumstances and community contribution themselves, and make every shortlisting and award decision.

5. Who we share it with

  • Our assessment committee, the people who review applications.
  • University of Lagos officials, such as your course adviser, Head of Department, the Dean of Student Affairs and fee or portal offices, but only what's needed to verify your claims or make a payment.
  • Service providers who store or process data for us: Google (Google Sheets, Drive and Gmail, where applications and documents are kept and emails are sent) and Vercel (which hosts this website).
  • Authorities, if the law requires it, or to report a false declaration, as the application form explains.

We never sell your information, and we never use it for marketing.

6. Where it's stored and how it's protected

Applications are stored in a private Google Sheet, and uploaded documents in a private Google Drive folder. Only the people we authorise can open them. Everything you send travels over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection.

Google and Vercel may process data on servers outside Nigeria. We use them because they apply strong security and contractual safeguards for international transfers.

7. How long we keep it

We keep your application and documents for 1 year after the end of the academic session your application relates to, then delete them. This gives time to handle questions, appeals and checks. If the law requires us to keep a particular record for longer, we keep only that record, for only as long as required.

8. Your rights

Under the NDPA, you have the right to:

  • know how your information is used, which is what this policy is for
  • see the information we hold about you and get a copy
  • correct anything that's wrong or incomplete
  • have your information deleted
  • object to or restrict how we use it
  • withdraw your consent at any time. This doesn't affect what we did before you withdrew it, but if you withdraw while your application is being assessed, we won't be able to continue considering it.
  • receive your information in a commonly used format

To use any of these rights, email skujyservices@gmail.com, ideally from your UNILAG student email, and include your application reference if you have one. We may need to confirm who you are before acting. We'll reply within 30 days.

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, you can complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) at ndpc.gov.ng. We'd appreciate the chance to sort it out with you first.

9. Applicants under 18

If you're under 18, please get your parent's or guardian's permission before you apply.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy, for example when we add new programs. The date at the top shows when it last changed. If we make a significant change that affects applicants, we'll show a notice on this website.
